Kampala

There are several thousand street kids in Kampala, Uganda’s dusty capital city. Some are AIDS orphans, some are refugees from the 20-year battle in the North with the Lord’s Resistance Army, and others are running from difficult home lives.

Rehabilitation for Street Kids: Getting Back into their Communities

We provide ongoing support for 27 street kids to attend a rural rehabilitation programme, so that they can rejoin their communities in the longer term. Our partner in this work is Mission for All.

Many of these children are AIDS orphans and some have been on the streets from as young as the age of three. Most have been living in a well-known slum in Kampala, in Kalelwe.

The rehabilitation programme involves re- integrating the children into local schools, providing tutoring in the evenings to catch up on studies, and working with they and their families to try to link the kids back into their original communities.

All these children are now attending school, and are happy and healthy. They are resourceful, imaginative, and energetic kids. To read about one of them, Claudy, please click here.
